From Events to Reasoning: Hierarchical Rule Composition over Explicit States

arXiv:2610.22403v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: What a reasoning system emits is a conclusion; what it owes is a justification. Producing one requires every operation to be admissible on the facts actually available, the dependencies of intermediate results to survive to the end of the path, and the path to be revised when a premise changes. We present the Event Reasoning System (ERS), in which the reasoning state is an explicit event graph.

Unit-level aggregation breaks coverage in causal foundation models

arXiv:2610.22770v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Causal foundation models (CFMs) show promising results for treatment-effect estimation, with unit-level estimates that are competitive on standard benchmarks. Many causal analyses, however, inform decisions through effects averaged over groups of units, such as the full sample, the treated units, or a subgroup, and for such decisions a CFM is useful only if its credible intervals are calibrated.

Is a Linear Probe Evidence of a Linear Representation?

arXiv:2610.22655v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The linear representation hypothesis holds that pretrained vision models encode generative factors as linearly decodable directions in feature space, and comes with a standard methodology: train a linear probe, declare a factor represented if accuracy is high. We show this test is too permissive.

When is a large language model a good calibration agent? Physics-labeled prompting for budgeted engineering simulator calibration

arXiv:2610.22379v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Calibrating expensive engineering simulators requires tuning model parameters to match reference data, a process heavily constrained by computational costs. This study investigates whether Large Language Models (LLMs), conditioned on physical diagnostic descriptions of simulation errors, can propose informative parameter updates more efficiently than conventional derivative-free optimizers.

Upper bounds on the number of causal pieces in spiking neural networks

arXiv:2610.22484v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The input space of single-spike neural networks decomposes into causal pieces, and the number of causal pieces has been shown to provide a lower bound on the approximation error for some spiking neural networks. While this decomposition is applicable to a wide range of spiking neuron models, the limits of how many causal pieces can be realised by spiking neural networks are still unknown.

BOLT: Multi-Bottleneck Bound-Guided Learning for Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling with Time Lags and Resource-Coupled Transport

arXiv:2610.22433v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Flexible job-shop scheduling becomes resource-coupled when a scarce vehicle fleet moves jobs between stations, because the schedule sets the transport waits. BOLT (bound-oriented learning for transport-coupled scheduling) builds a lower bound from chain, machine-capacity, and fleet-capacity relaxations.

Trust but Verify: Designing Region-Inhomogeneous Forward Dynamics for Discrete Diffusion

arXiv:2610.22380v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Continuous diffusion treats the forward process as a design space; discrete language diffusion often uses absorbing corruption, leaving context fully trusted throughout generation. This makes trust binary: corrupted context is copied as ground truth, propagating errors into generated spans. We reopen this design space by combining absorbing and uniform-mixing kernels with region-dependent rates.

Distinguishability and Recovery for a Doubly Sparse Spiked Wigner Model

arXiv:2610.23033v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We study distinguishability and recovery of a sparse rank-one signal in a spiked Wigner model with independently sparse noise through a variety of algorithms and parameter regimes. The signal and noise have separate sparsity parameters, while the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) remains of constant order as the matrix size grows.

Information-Geometric Blind Spots of Conformal Test Martingales

arXiv:2610.23131v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Conformal test martingales (CTMs) are e-processes for sequentially testing exchangeability via p-values produced by a conformity function $A$. However, any distribution shift that preserves the push-forward $P\circ A^{-1}$ leaves the p-value distribution invariant, rendering it invisible to every CTM based on $A$.

Towards Reconstructing Geographically Diverse Architecture with 3D Foundation Models

arXiv:2610.22514v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Internet-scale photo collections of real-world landmarks have driven progress in 3D computer vision yet remain highly challenging for modern 3D foundation models (3DFMs) that estimate scene structure in a single feed-forward pass. In this work, we introduce ArchWorld, a benchmark of 3D architectural landmarks with high geographic coverage and rich metadata.
